Do I need permission to use Buzzy in a clinical study? No, you are free to do so.
To date, there have been over 50 independent randomized controlled trials conducted with Buzzy, primarily focusing on venipuncture in pediatric populations.
While we typically do not supply units to institutions conducting IRB-approved prospective trials, we discourage the repetition of studies where clinical equipoise is no longer present. This means that Buzzy has been extensively validated for use in IVs, lab draws, and vaccinations, making it unlikely that new protocols would contribute significantly to the existing body of literature or lead to changes in clinical practice.
However, we are open to exploring areas where there is limited research or only a few studies, such as:
- digital blocks
- port access
- subcutaneous injections
- injections for patients with a fear of needles over time
Moreover, the potential conflicts of interest associated with conducting studies often do not justify the low cost of the units, which is why most researchers choose to carry out these studies independently.
Importantly, anyone can utilize any device or trademark, provided they include the registered trademark symbol (®) when referring to it, regardless of whether it's for research purposes. We occasionally receive requests for permission to use our images, but it's important to note that individuals can photograph a device and use those images without needing permission.
We are always happy to provide guidance on the science behind our products and share copies of previous studies or protocols if available!
