Do I Use Ice for Venipuncture?

When using Buzzy for venipuncture, do I use the vibration by itself or do I use the ice as well?

Do not put ice directly on the vein, only proximal (closer to the heart); warm venous blood is flowing to the heart, so it doesn’t pass the cold until after the site of venipuncture; in over 40 venipuncture studies, Buzzy made collecting blood easier or was the same as other interventions; vibration vasodilates making the vein bigger and easier to find.
